TITOL: Loop quantum gravity and ultrahigh energy cosmic
rays
RESUM: There are two main sets of data for the observed spectrum of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays (above 4x10E18 eV), the Fly's Eye Collaboration group observations, which is consistent with the predicted theoretical spectrum, and the observations from the Akeno Giant Air Shower Array (AGASA) Collaboration group, which reveal an abundant flux of particles with energies above 10E20 eV, violating the theoretical limit. As an explanation of this anomaly it has been suggested that quantum gravitational effects may be playing a decisive role in the propagation of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays. We consider the loop quantum gravity approach and establish new constraints on the parameters of this theory. As a result we state the possibility of reconciling the AGASA observations.
